It’s time to discover a new way to move with the latest addition to our Evolve Challenge.
But first, let’s chat about the hot topic of Pilates and why it’s trending!
MWU Pilates Coach, Lisa Nicolaisen, is a big advocate for Pilates and incorporating this movement into your training and everyday lifestyle. She shares that Pilates is ideal for everybody and every body as it is low impact, gentle on the body, and overall allows you to move better in all aspects of your life.
Read on to discover the benefits of Pilates and why you should add Pilates into your training regime.
1. Build a Stronger Mind-to-Body Connection
Pilates is a great way to disconnect and tune into what’s really going on in your mind and body.
The movement requires a lot of focus and emphasises proper form, which allows you to remain present and helps achieve that deeper mind-body connection. This connection is not only good for us physically but also gives us mental clarity and helps relieve stress.
2. Strengthen & Lengthen Your Body
Pilates is a full-body workout that will not only strengthen, but lengthen, every muscle in your body. The movement will help increase muscle tone and flexibility, and after each session you will feel longer and stronger.
3. Improve Your Posture
Pilates helps to realign the spine and strengthen neglected postural muscles which result in better posture. Pilates also promotes the strengthening of your abdominal muscles which is really important when it comes to your posture. Having a strong core will help keep your spine protected, ensuring that it doesn’t slip into poor postural positions.
4. Prevent Injuries
Pilates will not only build strength in larger muscle groups, but it also strengthens the smaller stabilising muscles that help support our body and prevent us from injuries. Pilates has a strong emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, which is important for teaching us how to move safely and correctly to avoid injuries.
5. Enhance Your Everyday Performance
Pilates will teach you how to keep your body in its strongest neutral alignment, which is very beneficial when it comes to doing everyday activities or other types of training. It will not only make you stronger, but it will make you move better in every aspect of your life, and I am so excited for you to experience all of the amazing benefits Pilates has to offer!
