Benefits of Yoga
Enhance flexibility, strength, and balance
Yoga is a holistic workout that targets every muscle group, promoting strength and flexibility simultaneously.
Manage stress and anxiety through relaxation and breathing techniques
The combination of breath work, meditation, and physical movement in yoga helps reduce stress levels and promotes relaxation. Regular yoga practice can enhance overall well-being by fostering a sense of calm, balance, and resilience.
Improve posture and alignment
Yoga emphasises proper alignment and balance, which translates into better posture over time. By strengthening core muscles and aligning the spine, yoga helps counteract the effects of sedentary lifestyles and promotes a more upright, confident posture.
Cultivate a deeper mind-body connection
Through breath-centred movements and postures, yoga helps you tune in to your body's sensations and quiet the mind.
Types of Yoga
Now, let’s explore the various styles of yoga, each offering unique approaches to enhance physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
Vinyasa
Vinyasa yoga is a dynamic style of yoga where poses are coordinated with rhythmic breathing. Movements are smooth, linking one pose to another in a sequence. Vinyasa classes can vary widely in intensity and pace but generally focus on building strength, flexibility, and mindfulness.
Power Yoga
Power yoga is a vigorous and fitness-based approach to vinyasa-style yoga. It's often fast-paced and challenging, incorporating strength-building poses and sequences. Power yoga classes aim to build muscle, endurance, and flexibility through continuous movement.
Kemetic Yoga
Kemetic yoga focuses on connecting the mind, body, and spirit. It incorporates slow, deliberate movements and deep breathing, often drawing inspiration from hieroglyphs and ancient Kemetic philosophy. This style emphasises as sense of grounding, alignment and balance.
Full Body Beginner Yoga
This is a gentle and accessible style of yoga designed specifically for beginners. Classes typically cover basic yoga poses and breathing techniques, focusing on foundational movements and alignment principles. The pace is slower, allowing newcomers to comfortably learn the basics of yoga practice.
Restorative Yoga
Restorative yoga is a deeply relaxing and therapeutic practice that involves holding gentle poses for extended periods, often supported by props like blankets, bolsters, and blocks. The goal is to release tension and restore balance, making it an excellent choice for stress relief and recovery.
Yin Yoga
Yin yoga is a slow-paced and meditative practice that targets the connective tissues in the body. Poses are held passively for several minutes to encourage deep stretching and release. Yin yoga complements more dynamic yoga styles by promoting flexibility and a sense of calm.
These sessions will introduce you to various ways of incorporating Yoga into your training plan and enhance flexibility, strength, and balance within the mind and body. So whether you prefer to complete these classes as a weekly Challenge, or add them to your schedule where it suits you, Yoga is suitable for all!
How to Incorporate Yoga into Your Routine:
Yoga can be incorporated into your current training routine in various ways. Whether you're seeking a warm-up, cool-down, active recovery, or low-impact session they can seamlessly integrate into your routine.
Warm Up & Cooldown: If you have the time before or after your session, you can opt for a Restorative or Yin class after your gym workout to aid your recovery.
Active Rest & Recovery: Opt for a gentle session on your rest day to promote recovery without adding stress to your body.
You can choose a class focused on balance and stability to complement your strength training and enhance overall body control. You can also use these classes to improve your overall flexibility, reducing injury and enhancing performance in other activities.
Dedicated Yoga Session: Dedicate your daily workout to a Power, Strength or Full Body Beginner Yoga session to focus on building strength and endurance, and learn the fundamentals of Yoga.
