5 Tips for Starting Your Health and Fitness Journey

5 Tips for Starting Your Health and Fitness Journey

Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned fitness aficionado who hasn’t been working on your goals for a long while, getting started can feel overwhelming. We totally get it!

However, getting started doesn’t have to be overly complicated or require a copious amount of ground work. With our 5 ultimate tips for starting your health and fitness journey, you can start making positive steps towards the best, healthiest version of yourself right this second!

#1 Don’t wait for a Monday…

…or for “after the holidays”, or for when you buy the exact equipment you envisioned for your home gym.

This mindset can result in procrastinating forever, and indefinitely delaying taking those first steps on your health and fitness journey.

Instead, think about one small thing you can do right now. That’s correct - right this second! Whether it’s getting up and doing 20 star jumps, pouring yourself a glass of water, or writing a shopping list for the week ahead, making that one small change will propel you forward. As our Coach Rachel Dillon likes to say, “little by little, a little becomes a lot”!

#2 Consistency is your friend

Once you’ve mastered the one-small-step-forward mentality, it’s time to take it up a notch and consider the bigger picture. Consistency, that is.

For example, let’s say you find going to the gym overwhelming at the moment, and your membership is just collecting the dust. Well, guess what - 2-3 short and sweet home workouts each week that you do complete, beat all those imaginary gym sessions that you don’t actually get around to.

Experiment and find things that you can implement consistently - and you will soon find your groove.

#3 Nutrition. Yes, nutrition.

There are no magic pills, shakes, or shortcuts to health.

However, supporting your body with quality nutrition suited for your goals and preferences is imperative for reaching the results you desire.

For many, this tends to be the hardest variable to modify. After all, even the most intense workout is only a small portion of your day - and nutrition must be considered constantly!

It’s easy to get overwhelmed, but by taking the time to educate yourself about the basics of nutrition, you will place yourself well ahead of the game.

#4 Rest is not optional

As a beginner, it can be surprisingly easy to fall into the “eager beaver” mode once you’ve started following a routine and experiencing benefits of a more active lifestyle.

Before you know it, you’re working out for an hour every day, going for sunset runs and managing to squeeze a social pilates session with your girlfriends into Sunday mornings.

Hold your horses though! Rest isn’t optional, and it’s very important to allocate sufficient time for rest and recovery. Otherwise, you may soon find yourself rundown or even injured - which is far from a healthy situation.

#5 Find your tribe!

Whether real-life or virtual, like-minded friends are an important support system to have in place when working towards your fitness goals.

Sharing your experiences with others makes you more accountable while also amplifying that enjoyment factor - so start building your tribe today.
